Mod fashion
Mod fashion focuses on the modernised way of the younger generation. The lifestyle of the youth in Australia changed during the 1960's. It was centered through British music, art and fashion.The mod lifestyle is focused on the new styles and innovation, this included geomatric shapes and bold colours. Colours was a huge factor in Mod fashion- the conservative colours of brown and pastel from the 1950's were replaced with bright and wild colous like blue.
Fashion icons
The 1960's fashion was influenced by many popular people who had a sense of fashion which was copied all over the world. The 1960's were driven by the youth and men were influenced by the Beatles. The Beatles had a major influence on young men and their sense of fashion and hairstyles. The trends of fashion continously changed when people saw someting that was much more pleasing. The trends from the 1960's changed more frequently and affected the history of fashion and this continued in the decade.
The 'Hippie' trend
The 1960's was the introduction of the hippie style. Towards the end of the the 1960's the hippie movement swifted through Australia. A huge number of young people became bored with the mainstream activities and trends. The youth wanted to stay away from being materialistic. Young people became opposed to the involvement in the Vietnam War and were motivated by embracing peace and love. The 'hippies' had a certain way of dressing, because of their nomadic lifestyle, they dressed rebelliously. Clothing styles and fabrics were not inspired by Western cultures but by Indians and Africans. Things such as tie-dyed fabric and paisley prints were becoming popular and new styles of wearing denim jeans emerged such as painted jeans.
Fabrics
Fabics such as PVC, plastic, polyester and vinyl were synthetic materials that were introduced by the surrounding news about the first landing on the moon. Blended fabrics were about mixing man-made fabrics and natural materials like cotton and wool. Improved technology meant that the mas production of improved fabrics such as artificial fur and leather. And because fashion trends were continously changing it meant more clother were porduced much faster and much cheaper than before.
