In the first years of the decade people were starting to make the transition from the consercative look of the 1950's to the carefree look of the 1960's. New diverse trends were being introduced broke the previous trends that were brought up in the 1950's such as the bikini which first had its peak in fashion in 1963 after it was featured in a music video.
Like men, women also wore suits to produce an elegant look, the suits were short, boxy and had jackets that had oversized buttons. The simple geometrical dresses also became quite popular in the early 1960's. Women also had to make an improved look during the night time and make a tansition from day fashion to a more appropriate night look. During parites and events, women wore full skirted ball dresses which were sinched at the waist. This created the line between the casual and formal wear that was seen in the ealry 60's.

Mid-1960's
The mid-1960's were famous time because it was then that the miniskirt was discovered by a designer named Mary Quant. The miniskit created havock in the fashion industry anf changed the outlook of what women should wear. The miniskirt eventually became a fashion piece worn by almost every stylish young women in Australia. Women pushed aside the idea of longer look skirts and turned to the miniskirt instead.

The minidress was an example of this, a dress that had an A-line shape and was sleeveless. The geometrical look of the ealry 1960's and late 50's were tossed aside and replaced with higher hemlines until they were not known as the minidress but the micro-minidress matched with bold patterns and colours.

Late 1960's
By the year of 1968, the hippie look was in motion. Women wore frayed bottoms and tie-dyed shirts.The hippie fashion style included, hairbands, workshirts and sandals which were a part of the hippie style and was even pushed to the limit to where women were barefoot and some braless.The outfits this time were not shiny or flourescent, they were made of polyester and chiffon. "Lounging" looks which were seen as laid back and carefree. The late 60's were also a time of psychedelic prints and animal prints became a huge fashion statement in 1969.
